iPod as a tool of the data thief

Abe Usher believes Apple’s popular digital music player is a nifty tool with which to steal data from inside a corporate or government computer network. The computer security researcher has created a demonstration program, to show how media players and other small USB gadgets could be used to swipe sensitive data. The issue isn’t new. Research firm Gartner recommended iPods be banned from the workplace more than a year ago. It’s true that a miscreant could steal data in lots of different ways, but Usher says iPods and similar devices pose a special risk.
